His utopian story depicts an ideal future society after the socialist revolution has taken place. In it he explored the ideas of class, social systems, gender, marriage, mechanization, labor, money, education and ecology over a century ago. As our 21st-century world is facing the climate change due to the unrestricted capitalism, many of the issues presented in this book are still pertinent today.
Yoshiko Yamamoto is currently working on illustrating the entire thirty-two chapters of William Morris’s News from Nowhere.
This multi-color woodblock print by Yoshiko Yamamoto is for Chapter 31. It depicts Kelmscott Manor, the rural farmhouse that William Morris so loved in Oxfordshire along the River Thames. This newly illustrated version of Morris’s utopian vision will be finished and available in 2021.
